Guidelines for candidates

Why do I need to take ILSAT ?

These assessment tools are dual-language, print and recorded audio tests designed to test language fluency in English and other language, as well as ability to perform dialogue interpretation and sight translation.

The tools are intended to assess a candidate’s readiness to enter an interpreter training program, or in evaluating an interpreter’s working language and interpreting skills.

In Ontario, the Interpreter Language and Skills Assessment Tool (ILSAT) is a provincially recognized testing system that allows potential interpreters to acquire professional accreditation and certification in any of 63 languages.
